“New York is always a good idea.” ~ inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s famous words about Paris
What springs to mind when you think of New York? I think: Art. A refined lifestyle. Sophistication. Elegance. Class. Iconic attractions. I mean, NYC has everything.
Months ago, I received the floor plans for the latest Veneto Big Brothers Big Sisters show home in St. Albert. The home owner and I brainstormed some concepts. When we were done…well, we were in a “New York State of Mind.” So I set about designing a grand central home!
I knew and felt exactly what this home would look and feel like. It just felt right. First up, selecting all the interior finishes. Millwork, quartz, hardwood, carpet, tile, lighting and a thousand other little interior details. But, as with any project, hiccups happened. First, I had to change the hardwood. Then re-select the tile for the master ensuite as the prima stone doesn’t bend. All good.
Next, because you never trust a floor plan, I re-measured all the interior windows for blinds and puzzled out what would be best for really high windows with no view. And a budget.
Then choosing the pretty fabrics to dress up those windows! Did you know that I love fabrics and custom drapes? LOVE love love!
Drapes ordered. Check! On to days of driving all over Edmonton shopping for furnishings: Leons, Crate and Barrel, Sofa Land, Signature Lane Interiors, Konto Furniture, La-Z-Boy. I finally had a floor plan that suited the theme of the dream home.
Not done yet! We’re missing the “pretties”…cue many more days of driving around. The right lamps, the right area rug, the right greens, the right bedding, the right pillows, the right everything.
Ah, still need art work. New York is all about the art. Can’t forget that! I custom order some wall art. What can I say? I love Home Sense, but I can’t stand the dents and scratches that often accompany art from there. And my budget allowed it. Fun!
Buying done. Stay tuned for part 2!
