I love dots. LOVE LOVE LOVE them! For as long as I can remember, circles have fascinated me—they’re just so playful and fun! No surprise then that dots and circles are all over the branding from when I started Ann Love Interiors 15 years ago.
Inspiration time
The Christmas Carollers were singing their hearts out. I LOVE Christmas! There’s my logo flashing across the big screen again. Hmm…love sponsoring the Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree…great cause, but …my logo… argh! It just doesn’t feel right anymore. It’s not me…
That was 2 years ago. Suddenly, I was ready for a change—Ann Love Interiors had to grow up! After all, if you’re not changing, you’re not growing. It was time to “Disconnect the Dots…”
I was so lucky that Deb Tansley was the one who originally brought my dot obsession to life. The branding she did when my company took off is timeless, and I still regularly received compliments about it 15 years later, but it was time for a change. I’ve changed, and I want my brand to reflect me. Sounds simple enough, right? Well let me tell you, rebranding is quite a process!
Hip to be square?
I told 4 different designers the exact, same thing: “I want to update my dots.” The first 3 attempts were lacklustre. But then I found Mo. His completely out of the box thinking turned my dots into squares (ha!)…but with a few small dots, just because….He brought my vision to life. He took half my A and completed my I. It was exactly what I wanted!
Rebranding took time, patience, some mind-reading, and a lot of conversation And Of Course $$$. I had to find the right people and be really hands-on. Mo listened to the direction I gave him for my logo redesign and took it to a whole new level. That takes talent. Through the process, I learned that I was tired of black cards. That I didn’t want my name “written” on my cards. That squares are my new dots, and crème is my new black. When I fell in love with Mo’s logo, it inspired a complete overhaul of everything, from business cards to a totally new website. After 2 years, I finally have something that’s genuine to me and that I love 100%. Yay for #ariesstyle!
But what about the dots? I may have disconnected them, but dots will always be in my life…
True Love…(dot dot dot)
